How Did We Get Here?

In the winter of 1998, an outpouring of the Holy Spirit graced a local church on Chicago’s north side called Cross and Crown. For months, high school and college age students were coming to faith in Jesus, devoting their lives to fasting, prayer and evangelism, and learning increasingly about the broader vision of the Kingdom for their generation. Among these students was a young man named David Popovici, whose radical encounter with Jesus transformed his life and opened his heart to God’s call. David moved to Pensacola, Florida, after graduating high school, and became one of the first graduates of FIRE School of Ministry in 2001.

Back in Chicago, Pastor J.L. Rivera and then-Youth Pastor Jeff Hubing, were sensing that the time was right to launch a school that would disciple and mentor students for ministry, right in the heart of the city....
